Warlord Games Soviet Bloc Elite Operational Group Review
Greetings comrades!
At long last the dutiful designers at Science City Warlord have released the newest and greatest of Soviet Soldiery to the battlefield. This new Soviet Bloc Elite Operational Group will allow us to trample over the fascist and capitalist scum. Glory to the Union!
Contents:

Right. That’s enough of that. So, let’s ask the question: what is this Elite Operational Group boxset? This box consists of:
1 x Soviet Bloc Platoon Commander (Warlord Resin miniature)
6 x Ursus Infantry (multi-part plastic miniatures)
3 x Ursus Infantry with Mauls (multi-part plastic miniatures)
2 x DM-40 Molot Medium Walkers (multi part plastic miniatures)
1 x Soviet Bloc vehicle decal sheet
5 x Rift Dice
6 x Order Dice

Firstly, the Soviet Bloc Platoon Commander. Let’s be honest, this is a punishment posting for this poor guy. On the bright side though, with so many raging Ursas on the board, this guy is an afterthought for the enemy.
This is also the only non-plastic model in the box, being made of resin instead of plastic.

Moving on, we have the not-so-cuddly teddy bears. The Ursas are a hard-to-kill beast in close combat, and when there is a need to be fast (as in the Special Rule) as well, it's nice to know that the boxset contains nine of these beautiful models, with six of them armed with claws and three with mauls. They are all plastic too, which is a bonus.

Lastly, we have the new plastic Molot Medium Walker, and this thing looks stunning. It comes with a whole load of new weapons, so you can customise it to your preferred loadout. As it stands currently, it’s rather tanky and perfect for inflicting damage, as well as pinning enemies before the Ursas close in for the kill. (And let's be honest, if you could be anyone in this boxset, the Merlot Crew is who I’d want to be.)

Cost breakdown:
Ok, let's be 100% clear here: Warlord boxsets are always insanely good value for money (especially compared to some other model companies, cough cough GW).
Prices are based on buying individual units, not taking advantage of any of Warlord's bundles or other deals available.
6 Ursas = £37
3 Ursas with Mauls = £27
2 Molots = £120
1 Platoon Commander = £12
Total = £196
Saving total = £86
£86! With that price, you’re basically getting most of the models in this box for free! So yes, this boxset is amazing value for money!
Suggested Add-Ons:
This boxset allows you to field an assault platoon and an armoured walker platoon. So personally, I’d add a sniper team and/or Daughters of the Motherland to the assault platoon. A sniper team would allow for the picking off of officers and NCO’s, and the Daughters can rock up and hold an objective, while the Ursas move in to kill more enemies.
Conclusion:
At first, I’ll admit, I didn’t get this boxset's angle. But now that I've had more time to consider it, I can appreciate what the designers were going for. This boxset could be excellent for a new player as their first army, or even as an expansion to an existing one. Hi, thank you for reading my review.
