New Chaos Battleforce Review and Cost Breakdown

Greetings one and all,

Just a quick one today as I break down the 4 new Chaos Battleforce boxsets and ask, are they worth the price? So pray to the chaos gods and let's dive into the warp.

(Disclaimer: RRP is based upon previous prices and will be adjusted if my speculation is wrong.)

Lords of Excess Battleforce

Lords of Excess Battleforce

This battleforce is made up of: 1 Daemon Prince, which has a huge range of building options and is a really nice model; 20 tormentors, which can be built as either Tormentors or Infactors, so either as ranged or melee armed Space Marines; and lastly, there are the Noise Marines, which are gorgeous models and can be armed with a range of sonic sounds.

Daemon Prince = £54.50

20 Tormentors =£88

12 Noise Marines = £85

Total = £227.50

RRP = £155

Savings = £72.5

As you can see, £72.50 is an outstanding saving and gives you a reasonable starting force for a new Emperor's Children army. Or, as a very good addition to an existing force.

Khorne Daemonkin Battleforce

Khorne Daemonkin Battleforce

A very thematic force, led by a Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut (which can also be built as Lord Invocatus) and 10 Berzerkers, which are just amazing models and the amount of trim on them isn’t scary at all. The Daemons in this army are an interesting choice, though . 6 Bloodcrushers are nothing to sniff at, but the 6 Bloodletters are getting a bit long in the tooth now and could do with an update. That said, those Hellblades will still cut down most things you get them in combat with.

Lord on Juggernaut = £42.50

10 Khorne Berzerkers = £42.50

20 Bloodletters = £54

6 Bloodcrushers = £65

Total = £204

RRP = £155

Savings = £49

This is the lowest in terms of saving, and if I’m honest, I don’t rate the models as much as I do some of the others. GW have sold far better Battleforce boxes for the followers of Khorne in the past.

Sekhmet Coven Battleforce

Sekhmet Coven Battleforce

This is a cool box of goodies. Plenty of sorcerous might backed up by 10 Terminators and a giant warp spawned beasty, so you get an Infernal Master and his three henchmen. These are further reinforced by the sheer toughness of 10 Scarab Occult Terminators, which can lay down their own relatively normal hail of bolter fire. Lastly, there's the matter of the Mutalith Vortex Beast, a wonderful centrepiece model and something every Thousand Sons player should have in their army.

Infernal Master = £27

3 Exalted Sorcerers = £40

10 Scarab Occult Terminators = £80

Mutalith Vortex Beast =£58

Total = £205

RRP = £155

Savings = £50

In terms of savings, this is only slightly better than the previous battleforce (it’s literally £1 difference). I think it would make a great addition to an existing force, or if you’re willing to buy a pack or two of Rubrics, it could make a strong basis for a new army.

Vile Vectorium Battleforce

Vile Vectorium Battleforce

Again, a really thematic battleforce but also very yin and yang. On one side you have massive elite Terminators, and on the other... Zombies… I mean, Poxwalkers... This box has: Lord Felthius and his retinue of Blightlord Terminators; another 3 Deathshroud Terminators with their plaguespurt gauntlets and manreaper scythes (clearly Felthius is either favoured or distrusted by Mortarion); 3 Foetid Bloat-Drones bringing even more firepower to the mix; and then we have 20 Poxwalkers to tie up units and soak up firepower. They die easily, but are easily replaceable.

Lord Felthius / Lord of Contagion and Blightlord Terminators = £29.50

3 Deathshroud Terminators = £40

3 Foetid Bloat-Drone = £114

20 Poxwalkers = £50

Total = £233.50

RRP = £155

Savings = £78.50

In terms of savings, this one saves you the most money. That said, these savings are inflated by the 3 Foetid Bloat-Drones. It's still a good saving though, and again, could be a great add-on to an existing force, or with a couple of extra units, maybe even a good start for a new army.

(Side note - Why are the Lord of Contagion and Blightlord Terminators only £29.50 while the Deathshrouds that have one less model are £40? I’m not complaining, I’m just confused.)

The Time of Chaos

It’s a new year, so why not pledge yourself to a new army and GOD! These are all great places to start, and although I question the selection of some of these battleforces, I can't say they are objectively bad, and in some cases, the savings are really good. The Lords of Excess Battleforce is clearly the best of the bunch in my opinion, its well rounded and with a saving of £72.50, you might as well give in to excess.
